Coombsville Residence - Exterior Approach

The original entry to this Napa Valley home was a broad concrete walkway adjacent to and alongside the garage wall. There was a large asymmetrical roof overhang over the walkway. The placement of the front door was awkward and did not reflect the gracious nature of the clients. Additionally the non-descript original front doors did not present the arriving guest with any sense of the special home within.

By removing the large concrete walk, repositioning the pathway away from the house so that it journeyed through the oak studded landscaping on the approach to the front door, we were able to offer guests a more pleasing introduction to home. A locally quarried stone wall guides the pathway to the front door past a metal sculpture that doubles as a fountain. The large asymmetrical roof overhang was partially removed to create a symmetrical roofline.

JS Design + Build designed a new steel front door assembly artistically divided and inset with three different types of Bendheim Architectural Glass. Gracious open concrete steps transition lightly from the landscaped approach to the floating concrete entry pad. Steel cable railings duplicate the railings used on the upper decks off the home's living areas. Additionally, the contractor's grade siding was replaced with board and batten then painted the same color as the exclusive Meadowood Resort, located east of St. Helena in the Napa Valley, California. The standing steel roof completes the feel of a chic rural building placed in a natural yet artistic setting.
